Project Pivot is a non profit organization uniquely created to address the digital divide that exists in communities; especially those where people of color reside. We recognized that there was a large technology gap that exists in communities; especially where minorities reside. According to a Rice University study completed in March 2021; when covid-19 forced education online, more than 1 in 5 families lacked internet access or digital devices for their students to learn online. Only 1 in 10 of white families reported challenges; while 1in 3 Black families and 1 in 4 Hispanic families were impacted. Our hope is for people to be able to live, work and play in society having access to tech resources, educated on how technology works, skilled aptitude and be employable in tech careers.
As we navigate our daily lives, it has become increasingly apparent that technology is necessary to function in the world today. Our mission is to build bridges to economic prosperity through access to technology for the advancement of communities of color. Project Pivot will live out its mission through community education and outreach, after school programs, summer coding camps and teaching technology to seniors.
